India’s coastal plains are narrow strips of low-lying land along both the eastern and western coasts, lying between the sea and the hills (Western or Eastern Ghats). India’s total coastline is 7,516.6 km including the islands. The mainland coastline alone is approximately 5,422 km. These plains are among the most densely populated regions of India and are crucial for agriculture, fishing, trade through major ports, and tourism.
